Widespread Devastation
Hurricane Dorian swept across the Bahamas as a Category 5 hurricane earlier this week and left a trail of destruction.
There are a total of five Assembly of God churches on Abaco Island and five AG churches on Grand Bahama, but there is no word yet as to the conditions of the buildings in the aftermath of the most powerful storm recorded in the history of the small island nation.
With telephones down across Abaco and Grand Bahama islands, residents posted lists of missing loved ones on social media.
Our very own Builders International CFO, Larry Russell, and his wife, Nancy, were both born and raised in Nassau, Bahamas. They are incredibly concerned about their family on the ravaged island of Abaco. For three excruciatingly long days, one of Larry’s sisters and her family of five were still missing on Abaco. Yesterday, Larry’s sister in Florida got word to him that she heard from their sister. They know they are alive, but they do not know anything further. Please pray for the Russell family and everyone affected by this devastating storm.
Larry will be traveling to Nassau next Wednesday along with AGWM Caribbean Area Director, David Speer, to assess the situation and meet with Bahamian Assemblies of God district leadership.
AGWM Relief is helping the national church with immediate relief funds, which is the current need. You can give via AGWM Relief Fund.
A reconstruction assessment will happen in the future after basic needs are taken care of and logistics open up.
Continue praying for the Bahamas and those in the current path of Dorian, as it pummels toward the east coast of the United States.
