Please allow me to explain the process, in these basic steps to give you a better idea of what you are looking at going forward.
- Limcoma Safaris will transport all trophies to our selected taxidermist in South Africa.
- One of their consultants will contact you and discuss your different options, and finalize your instructions. Shoulder mounts of your 4 included trophies will be paid for by Builders International. Due to government regulations; document, shipping, and import fees must be paid by the hunter. Builders International can cover these costs.
Should you decide to harvest different or additional trophies or choose taxidermy other than shoulder mounts:
- The taxidermist requires a 50% deposit to start processing the trophies and the rest is payable when the trophies are completed. Please be advised, that your trophies will only go into production, once your deposit is received. Within this production period, all documents and hunting permits are sent to the export agent, to apply for the export permits.
- Production period takes about 8 to 10 months to complete. Larger orders, for example, rhino, elephant, hippo, giraffe, etc. might take longer depending on the order.
- Once your processed trophies are completed, they will send you the balance of the invoice.
- Your trophies are crated (packaged into a custom-built wooden crate) and handed over to the export agent. The export agent will communicate with your import agent on all shipping arrangements and permits.
- Your import agent imports the crates and arranges delivery to your home. We suggest the use of Coppersmith as an import agent. Coppersmith is who I have used for all of my trophies back into the US. www.coppersmith.com My agent is Caroline Quick, cquick@coppersmith.com
If you do not wish for us to process the trophies in South Africa, your steps will change to:
- They require full payment to start processing the trophies. This process is called “Dip and Pack”. Within this preparation period, all documents and hunting permits are sent to the export agent, to apply for export permits.
- Production period is about 4 months to complete. Larger orders for example: rhino, elephant, hippo, giraffe, etc. might take longer depending on the items and the permits they require.
- Once prepared, your trophies will be inspected, by the South African government authorities.
- Your trophies are crated (packaged into a custom-built wooden crate) and handed over to the export agent. The export agent will communicate with your import agent on all shipping arrangements and permits.
- Your agent imports the crate/s and arranges for delivery to your taxidermy. Trophies will go to a US customs warehouse for clearance and checking. This can take about 4 to 6 weeks.
- Once your trophies are cleared, the trophies will be delivered to your taxidermy for processing or you can pick up your crates from your import agent.
Shipping estimates can be requested to give you a better idea of what you are looking at. Estimates can change weekly due to ocean and airfreight rates, exchange rates and agent fees. You do not need to have an agent / broker beforehand. One can be recommended to assist you once needed.
