Build Hope Quarterly: Winter 2026

Meet Risha.
Czech Republic
“For a long time, I didn’t feel like my life had any real purpose. I grew up in a non-Christian family in the Czech Republic. I never knew my biological father—he left when I was very young. My mother struggled with drug addiction and unstable relationships. When I was six years old, we had to leave her and go live with our grandparents. Later, we entered foster care.
Growing up, I was mostly just existing. I had friends, but none of them were Christians. My days were spent playing video games, drinking energy drinks, and eating fast food. From fifth to seventh grade, I barely attended school. I would wake up, play games all day, sleep, and repeat. I felt tired, empty, and stuck. I believed gaming was the only thing I was good at, but deep down, I knew something was missing . . .

That missing piece was God.
When I first started going to Church Without Borders, my family wasn’t surprised—my brother had already begun attending. At first, he was the only one going, and even then, we didn’t walk that journey together. But over time, my sister and my mother also began attending church.
Everything started to change.
My mother’s life has improved greatly. She still struggles at times, but our relationship is healthier than it has ever been. My relationship with my sister was once very broken, but after she started going to church, we began talking again. Today, she’s one of my best friends. She attends youth group regularly, is growing closer to God, and her mental health has noticeably improved.
The biggest change in my life is that I no longer live in chaos—I live with purpose and direction. Instead of isolating myself with video games, I now spend time with people who encourage me and help me grow. I’ve found peace knowing that Jesus is always with me.
Today, I feel called to serve others. I want to be involved in the technical side of church ministry and help create environments where people feel welcomed, supported, and free to encounter God. I also feel a growing passion for evangelism and may one day move to another country to serve.
I once had a vision of standing at a large Christian event with thousands of people worshiping together. I want to use my gifts to help people feel open, connected, and seen. I love talking with people, encouraging them, and motivating them—and I believe this is part of my purpose.
I know what my life would look like without Christ. I would still be chasing connection through games, drinking, or anything that made me feel like I belonged, even for a moment. Instead, I now know who I am and why I’m here.
I became a Christian two years ago and was baptized eleven months ago. Because of Jesus, my life has direction, peace, and purpose—and I want others to experience that same hope.”
